WinSun, a Chinese Engineering company, has successfully constructed a six-story apartment building using a 3D printer to build the parts. The 3D printer they used is massive, measuring 20 feet high, 33 feet wide, and 132 feet long. Each part of the building was printed at WinSun’s facility and then the parts assembled at the site. As you can imagine, printing a building instead of hiring an entire construction team meant a significantly cheaper price tag, and the total cost to assemble the building was only around $160,000. Using a 3D printer also cut production time by about 50-70 percent and eliminated between 30 and 60 percent of construction waste. The building also made use of many recycled materials, making it a cheaper, more environmentally friendly construction option that could become more and more common in the future. But would you want to live in a home that was built wholly by a machine?
