HOW TO EXTINGUISH DIFFERENT KINDS OF FIRE | SKYSAVER RESCUE BACKPACKS

When a fire starts in your residence or office, the first thing you think of is probably to put it out with water. That’s not necessarily a good thing. There are times where water will not extinguish the fire, or will even make things worse. The last thing you need when dealing with a fire is having it go out of control (there’s always SkySaver as a last resort). When battling grease and electrical fires, you definitely should not attempt to put them out with water. That being said, we’ll be covering alternative ways to put out fires, also because you may not always have access to water at the time of the emergency.

Kitchen Fires

Kitchen fires can be deadly. A lot of oil and grease in the vicinity of the fire can be a huge problem when looking to put out said fire. Simply pouring water over it may not work. You most likely need alternative methods. Perhaps a fire began in your microwave. You should definitely not open it and throw water inside. That would be a mistake. You should stay calm, turn it off, make sure the door is closed, and observe. Most likely the fire will die down. If it doesn’t, use a fire extinguisher to put it out. If all else fails, call the fire department.

If you happen to be cooking something on a frying pan and all of a sudden the fire gets out of control, you should smother it with something, taking away its oxygen. Use the lid of a pot and not something flammable.

Grease Fire

Let’s say your kitchen fire involves a lot of grease. This can be tricky. You can definitely try the above method of clamping something down on it, however, you can use a safer and quicker order tramadol no covid online method. Sprinkle baking soda or salt on the grease. This will quickly absorb it and will put out the fire out at its source. You can also use a fire extinguisher on a grease fire, but DO NOT use water or flour. Flour can make it worse and water does not mix with oil, hence it would only cause the fire to spread.

Electrical Fire

Do not attempt to put out electrical fires yourself. Call the fire department and get out of your home as soon as possible. It is very difficult to trace the source of these fires and it is very dangerous to extinguish them yourself.

Campfires

Always make sure that as your campfire is burning to keep it under control. Do not make it bigger than necessary. When putting out the fire, make sure to let it die down first. That way, it will be easier to put out. Put the fire out by pouring water slowly onto the flames. Do not throw or dump the water. This can cause a sudden swell in smoke which can be dangerous. Keep pouring the water until the hissing sound of the embers dies out entirely. An alternative method can be pouring sand or dry dirt onto the flames. Do not try to bury it, simply stir it around to coat the flames until the fire dies. Make one hundred percent certain that the fire is completely out. Too many wildfires happen due to campers not sufficiently extinguishing their campfires. Make sure there is no smoke remaining.

There are other circumstances where simply throwing water on the fire would not be advisable, but those will be for another blog post. Have ever had to nontraditionally put out a fire? Sound off in the comments below.
